Study in the U.S.A. - Southeast (in English) - ISEP Exchange
Shenandoah University's campus is located in the heart of Winchester, Virginia, which is about 1.5 miles from the historic downtown area and 70 miles from Washington, D.C. Winchester is a historic city with an American small-town vibe in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley. The Center for International Programs organizes trips for international students to get involved in the community, as well as some day trips to Washington D.C. For students who are looking for a great tight-knit community with tons of outdoor activities, Shenandoah University could not be more perfect.
HOUSING
ISEP Students are housed in the on-campus accommodations and often share a room with one other student. Sheets, a light blanket, pillow case, towel, and washcloth are provided for the new arrivals by the Center for International Programs. There is a scheduled time and transportation during orientation to purchase additional items at nearby stores.
Students may stay on campus during breaks at no cost. An email is sent out by Residence Life prior to each break asking students to respond if they plan to stay on campus.
MEALS
Students will choose the 19-meals-per-week meal plan. This plan includes $75 Flex Dollars per semester and the option to use Meal Exchange at select retail locations on campus.
All on-campus dining services are closed during vacations. There are a number of restaurants and a few grocery stores within a mile of campus.
Students placed in residence halls all have a community kitchen (full kitchen, stove, sink, microwave) on each floor, typically shared with 5-10 other students.
Course Description
The following colleges are open to ISEP students: arts and sciences, conservatory, and business. All courses are taught in English and ISEP students may take courses at the Undergraduate or Graduate level depending on their field of study and degree type. Shenandoah is known for its music conservatory and the arts, and students are encouraged to get involved in multiple ways on campus.
Internships are available through Academic Training with ISEP. Students are responsible for finding their own internships, and many utilize Bellarmine's Career Development Center on campus for help. Students can also inquire with professors about undergraduate research opportunities. If you are interested in working on campus or doing Academic Training, please speak to your Student Services Officer.
Credits Earned
Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to earn 12-15 credits. Students typically enroll in 4-5 courses per term, however, music students may take additional music performance courses for no academic credit. A term runs for about 16 weeks. To determine how these credits convert at your home institution, please contact your home university coordinator.
If you use financial assistance, please speak with your home coordinator to understand your academic obligations and the requirements for using financial assistance.
