PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Consistently ranked one of the top modern universities in the U.K., the University of Plymouth has a strong record of excellence, enterprise and innovation across its teaching and research activities. The university has an excellent reputation for its teaching quality, having performed very well in all teaching reviews carried out by external bodies since 1996. The total University enrollment is 23,000, including 1,500 international students from 100 different countries.
Students in business are strongly encouraged to apply. Many courses in maritime studies and environmental and earth sciences are complemented by field trips including diving expeditions. The Combined Arts Program, consisting of majors in art history, English, heritage, history, media arts, theatre and visual arts, welcomes ISEP students.
HOUSING
ISEP Exchange students will be accommodated in university-managed student residence halls (subject to space availability), and will receive a combined housing and meal stipend with which to pay rent.
Regarding off-campus accommodation:
Due to unprecedented high demand, space in university-managed student residence halls are limited, and Exchange students should apply sooner rather than later. (Please note that you must have your official Offer Letter in order to do so.) However, Plymouth is a city with a lot of purpose-built student accommodation managed by commercial providers and they have more than enough rooms of all types for our students.
All of the non-university, commercially/privately-managed halls on our webpage are accredited to the same ANUK standard as the university managed halls. So students can be assured that they will be provided with at least the same standards of comfort, safety and management as they would enjoy in university managed halls. Nine of the thirteen halls featured on our webpage are in the city centre, only minutes’ walk away from our campus meaning they will not miss out on campus life if they were to book rooms with them. The ones highlighted below mention shorter stays/single semester specifically, but the others may also be open to offers.
Students should speak directly to housing providers about their accommodation needs.

MEALS
Students will receive a combined housing and meal stipend based on the cost of living for students in Plymouth, which they can use to purchase groceries and cook meals in shared facilities.
All ISEP students will be expected to budget for their meals accordingly, and can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips, as well as check out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad.
Course Description
ISEP students are able to choose modules (classes) from those available to incoming students. Other modules not listed on these pages may be available with the agreement of the academic exchange advisor.
For descriptions, from the fields of study page, select your general academic field. Then select a specific "course title" (e.g. "BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance"), which is the complete three year pathway toward a certain degree. Then click on the link entitled "course details" to obtain all the modules (classes) offered in that course. The Environmental Science programme is very strong and highly ranked. We also offer Environmental Geoscience and Environmental Management and Sustainability.
You must select modules within the same course (program) at the same academic year level for which you have the appropriate prerequisites.
Semester placements are possible in all subjects. However, please take note of our semester dates. There is an exam period in January, which can cause problems for students from North America who wish to come for semester one only. Students can opt to choose classes that have 100% coursework and submit electronically. Alternatively, we are able to send exam packs to their home institution – provided the home institution agrees to administer them.
ISEP participants are accepted for study by a relevant faculty. Students are usually only able to take a combination of courses currently available on recognized pathways. Cross-registration for modules taught in different courses (programs) is sometimes possible, but combinations cannot be guaranteed due to the potential for timetable clashes. Students may be required to select all modules from one particular course. Full-time students take 120 credits per year: typically six classes per year at 20 credits each, or three in a semester. Students sign up for classes on-site, during orientation. Students are given the option of having a tutor assist in course selection upon arrival in Plymouth.
Academics
Other Academic Conditions
**Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor Plymouth can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.
Students will register for modules online during the orientation period.
The following Cambridge test scores are also accepted:
-Cambridge English C1 Advanced: Minimum of 180 in all 4 components
-Cambridge English C2 Proficiency: Minimum 200 in all 4 components
Only students who are single semester and require a visa need to submit English proficiency scores. However, those that do not require a visa need to have an equivilent English language capability so as not to struggle.
PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
