HOUSING
Exchange participants are required to live on-campus in residence halls or apartments contracted by the university. Global Affairs staff will assist incoming exchange students with information on housing arrangements; however, the students themselves are responsible for signing housing contracts and/or leases.
On-campus residence halls are administered through the University's Housing Services Office. The thirteen halls provide a variety of living options including halls for men, halls for women, and halls in which men and women live on separate floors. There are halls with quiet floors, floors for nonsmokers, etc. Laundry facilities are available in on-campus halls. Most rooms are arranged for "double occupancy" meaning that residents share their rooms with one other student. Each hall is staffed with people who are there to assist their residents. Contracts for on-campus housing are for the full academic year, but ISEP students staying for just the semester will not be held to the year contract. Two dining halls are available on campus for full-course meals. In addition, a variety of food is served in four other locations on campus. Although on-campus housing and meal plans are convenient, you should be aware of the following factors that are quite familiar to American students but may be very different from what students from other countries expect. For example: Normal residence hall contracts (for full-year students) are for the full academic year; you will be charged a penalty if you break the housing contract. Cooking facilities in the residence halls are VERY limited or EVEN non-existent. There may be rules and regulations regarding visits by members of the opposite sex. Linens (sheets, blankets, towels, etc.) are not provided in the residence halls.
Housing is not available during winter or summer breaks.
MEALS
Students are given a stipend amount to their student account that will cover the Purple 20 meal plan. The Purple 20 meal plan offers 20 Pirate Meals for the semester that can only be used in various retail locations. Along with these meals, you also receive Purple Bucks, Guest passes for the dining halls, and unlimited access to the continuous service dining halls (Todd and West End).
This plan includes:
- Pirate Meals to be used in the retail locations per semester
- Unlimited Access to our continuous dining locations (Todd and West End Dining Halls)
- A certain amount of Pirate Bucks
- Limited number of Guest passes to bring a friend or family member to the dining halls
Remains the same during vacation periods. Meal plan benefits are not included for semester breaks.

Class schedules for upcoming semesters are usually available about 3 months in advance. Note that not all the courses listed in the catalog will be available every semester.
Academic Limitations:
ISEP students cannot take courses in Dance, Dental, Nursing, Medical, Clinical Lab Sciences, Physical Therapy, Physician’s Assistant program, or Athletic Training.
ECU accepts students in their second year, and the students may only take courses in the 2000 and 3000 levels. Courses above the 3000 level are significantly more difficult to register for, and the higher-level courses require specific prerequisites that are harder to waive.
Please note that many classes are offered online but due to visa regulations, there is a limit to how many online classes can be a part of your full-time schedule. ISEP students may only take 3 credits/1 course fully online, and must still have a minimum of 9 credit hours being taught in person.
