Located in Brookings, South Dakota State University is home to more than 11,000 students – large enough for those seeking a big-time campus feel, but yet not too big that students don’t feel at home. SDSU is the state’s largest and most comprehensive university with more than 200 academic programs. Students get a personal, practical education on a vibrant campus with faculty that are engaged – not only in the classroom – but also throughout campus. More than 200 student organizations are available to ensure there is something for everyone. If you want to leave campus for a few hours, downtown Brookings is just a few minutes away. Enjoy unique, independent restaurants, as well as the familiar favorites you know and love, shop at local stores with some Brookings flavor, and take in a movie or two at the local theater.

Strong fields at South Dakota State University include engineering and agriculture. Students are permitted to enroll in four to five classes per semester which will be 12-15 U.S. credits.

MEALS

Students who choose to live in a residence hall will be provided with the Premier Meal Plan. This meal plan provides unlimited swipes at the Larson Commons Dining location during the semester as well as some amount in flex dollars that can be spent at any other dining location on campus. These funds are added to the students ID card after arrival.

There are no meals on campus during vacation periods.  However, several food vendors in the community accept flex dollars on the student ID cards as payment for food.

*Calendar Year students are not eligible for ISEP housing or meal benefits over the summer break

Other Academic Conditions

The following program areas are not available to ISEP students due to their high discipline fees and academic preparation requirements: Architecture, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

Registration in classes is not guaranteed as students must meet prerequisites. SDSU will do its best to obtain departmental permission for a class in which the student is interested. However, students must be flexible with class options and will work with an advisor (assigned after arrival on campus) to choose classes as they may change year to year and semester to semester.

Lab Fees: All classes that require a lab must be paid for by the student. This could include classes in landscape architecture, visual arts, dairy sciences and more. Please check for updated course fees to anticipate potential costs.

Classes classified as online or off-campus tuition (this includes English as a Second Language courses) are not included in ISEP benefits. However, students may be able to take the class if willing to pay the tuition and fees associated with this type of class. Most students choose other classes.

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.

VISA: All non-U.S. citizens will be required to obtain a visa. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
