  SDSU is situated on a 260-acre urban campus on the edge of Brookings, one of the fastest growing communities in South Dakota. The city has a diverse economy and serves as the educational and cultural focus for east-central South Dakota and parts of western Minnesota. Brookings has shopping malls, a multi-screen movie theater and a vibrant downtown. Outdoor recreation is available, with many parks in town and several lakes within 30 miles. The twin cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul are four hours away.

  There are seven recognized international student organizations, including the African Students’ Association, Black Student Alliance, Chinese Student Scholars Association, Indian Students’ Association, Islamic Cultural Club, Korean Student Association, Latin American Student Association, Native American Club and Nepalese Student Association. 
  
  The university’s facilities include "smart" classrooms equipped with the latest instructional technology, the state art museum and state agricultural heritage museum, recital halls, and a state-of-the-art performing arts center. Athletic facilities are available for use free of charge to ISEP students and include a fully-equipped Wellness Center. SDSU is a green campus and operates McCrory Gardens, famous for flowers and tree species from around the world.
