PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

INSA Lyon focuses on engineering and technology, with a strong research emphasis for students as well as faculty, and is consistently rated the top engineering school in the country. The university is known as the scientific and technological capital of France, with 22 research labs, more than 600 researchers and 650 PhD students.

The "Information Science & Technology Fall Semester" is a program jointly organized by the Telecommunications, Computer Sciences and Engineering and Electrical Engineering Departments, in collaboration with three research laboratories (CITI, CREATIS, LIRIS). Each week of the IST semester program is structured with 2 days of courses and 3 days in research labs. 

A three-week French-intensive pre-session is also available to ISEP students accepted into programs at INSA-Lyon, and all students are encouraged to attend! 

Spring semester options for students who wish to attend INSA Lyon for the full year include enrolling in regular university courses in Engish and/or French, continuing their fall semester research project full-time, or completing an internship. 

HOUSING AND MEALS

ISEP students at INSA-Lyon live in an on-campus residence hall and recieve a 21 meals per week meal plan

SCHOLARSHIP

This program qualifies for the ISEP French and German Language Annette Kade Fund Scholarship. The scholarship awards $500 - $1,500 USD to students who are from a U.S. institution and studying French or German language in Austria, France, Germany, Reunion Island, or Switzerland. Learn more here!

Course Description

Students in this program will enroll in a for-credit research project, six content courses and a French language course, earning a total of 30 ECTS (15 U.S. credits) for the semester. 

The research and development project will be conducted within one of the three research laboratories (CITICREATISLIRIS) Partners of the IST semester, these laboratories develop high-level research and students have the opportunity to work within a research team alone or with a fellow student from the program. They will have to make a bibliographic study, and develop their own contributions that will be presented in a final report and during an oral presentation.

Spring semester options for students who want to study at INSA Lyon for the full year include: 

1. Enroll in regular university courses in English and/or French

2. Continue with their research and development project from the fall semester under the supervision of a professor in the relevant lab, generally with the goal of completing an undergraduate thesis. Study Project (30 ECTS)

3. Complete a for-credit internship in a local company

4. Any combination of the three options presented above

Other Academic Conditions

Students should note they will be required to take all courses within the program. It is not possible to take courses from multiple departments. 

This program targets students in the fourth year of their bachelor's degree, but qualified students in the third year of their bachelor's degree are encouraged to apply. 

As the program is conducted entirely in English, no prior French experience is required. A B2 in English is required for non-native English speakers. 

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
