Unwind close to campus in one of two student residence halls, Castle Court or Bede Hall. Look forward to the independence of a furnished single room and connection with other students in shared common areas. You’ll find laundry facilities, communal study areas, and a cinema room conveniently located in your building.

DINE 

If you’re looking for world-class curry, Leicester has you covered; UK’s former Curry Capital, Leicester is home to the second highest number of Indian restaurants per capita in the world outside of India. While in Leicester, make sure to sample other local delicacies such as red Leicester cheese, Stilton cheese, and pork pie. Closer to campus, enjoy convenience and variety with DMU’s dining options. Between classes, recharge with a coffee from Coffee Hut or Coffee House. At mealtimes, head to Food Village to explore a variety of budget-friendly dishes, including vegan and halal options, from diverse cuisines. . For those who prefer to cook at home, kitchen access is available in the residence halls, and multiple markets are less than 10 minutes away. A meal stipend is offered to ISEP Exchange students are the beginning of the semester. 

EXPERIENCE 

Settle into life in Leicester with the range of social and cultural activities available to international students at DMU for free or minimal cost; past activities have included a Medieval tour of the DMU campus, exploration of Leicester’s diverse cuisines, bonfire nights, and more. Connect with DMU students through the I-Buddies program, which aims to help international students acclimate to life at DMU, and explore the range of student societies, including the Comics Society, Creative Writing Society, Women in STEM, and more. Take in the sights and sounds beyond campus with optional organized excursions, which could include a day trip to maritime Liverpool, historic York, or bustling London.

Friendly and affordable Leicester boasts a wide variety of cultural attractions and sights for every taste. Check out the city’s iconic street art, explore multiple museums and galleries, and take in Leicester’s rich history at Belvoir Castle and the King Richard III Visitor Centre. Course Description

Study with students from around the world where over half of students identify as Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME), more than 10% of students are international, and 40% of students identify as a first generation college student. Learn from academics who are both passionate about what they teach and are experts in their fields. De Montfort's extensive catalog of unique classes makes it possible for a broad spectrum of students to find classes to meet academic requirements. Study Creative Design or Law through a new lens or diversify teaching practices by studying Entrepreneurship from a British perspective. The options are expansive. 

While you're here, you'll experience block teaching where you learn one module at a time, have regular assesments, and faster feedback while building connections with tutors (professors). Students will take two blocks/modules per semester.

Credits Earned 

Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to earn 60 UK credits which ISEP recommends is the equivalent of 30 ECTS or 15 U.S. Credit Hours. Each course is worth 30 UK credits.

Special Application Instructions

Please note, students with lower GPA's will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Please check with your ISEP Advisor prior to submitting and prepare your most current transcript along with a statement of why you feel you should be considered in spite of a lower GPA.  In your statement, you may wish to address the following: 

• Why you have a low GPA 

• What strategies you have taken to improve this 

• Whether you are intending on focusing/playing to your strengths while studying abroad (i.e. if you're good at English, you will focus on English coursework during the program) 

• Is there an upward trajectory in your grades/marks 

Students are required to submit an internal application following their placement which is required of the host institution. Instructions will be sent by the ISEP Host Coordinator by email. 

Students must meet any prerequisites detailed in the module description, and De Montfort University will validate module selection.

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.

VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: All students, regardless of visa status will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to their program arrival date. Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit prior to or upon arrival. For more information on the process and estimated cost of the ETA and visa/residence permit, please review the ISEP Country Handbook.

Other Academic Conditions

Classes are called “modules” ot "blocks" at the De Montfort University and majors are called “courses”. 

Go to the Programme/Module Selection & Credits on the Incoming Exchange Students webpage to view the available modules. Please note, blocks/modules must be selected from one programme area and from one faculty only. All modules listed are subject to change. Please contact your ISEP SSO for specific details about the programmes of study available for you if you have questions. Students will be asked to include their module preferences on the De Montfort online application form that will be sent by the host coordinator after placement and confirmation. Placement in desired modules may be subject to availability and pre-requisites.

Arts, Design and Humanities

Students can select blocks from year two of the programme they would like to study. It is not possible to choose blocks from different years or programmes. 

Business and Law

Students can select blocks from either year two or three of the programme they would like to study. It is not possible to choose blocks from different years or programmes. It is only possible to take blocks from year two of Accounting and Finance and Accounting with Business Management. 

Computing, Engineering and Media

Semester students can select blocks from year two only. Full year students can choose from year two or three. It is not possible to choose blocks from different programmes or years of study.

Health and Life Science

Incoming exchange students should follow the same programme of study at DMU as they do at their home university. All module choices are subject to the approval of the Programme Leader for the area of study. The Health and Life Science modules cannot be mixed with any other years or programmes. 

**Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester  and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor De Montfort can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit. 

De Montfort University will also accept the following English proficiency tests:

-Cambridge English and Cambridge ESOL Levels 1 and 2: Equivalent to CEFR B2

Students coming for the fall semester only are able to provide a signed letter from the home institution indicating proficiency according to a minimum level of CEFR B2. 

Students wishing to take Law modules must have either a TOEFL iBT of 79 or higher, or an IELTS of 6.5 or higher if proof of English proficiency is required.
