Special Application Instructions

UNDERGRADUATE REQUIREMENTS: English Language Requirement: Any one of the following methods will automatically meet the minimum English requirement.  Applicants who do not meet the automatic English language admission requirement will undergo a holistic review to determine potential admissibility. 

• TOEFL (IBT internet-based test) - 68
• TOEFL (paper based test) - 520
• ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only)
• IELTS - 6.0
• 2 Face-to-face English composition classes taken in the U.S. at the college level with a grade of A or B
• More than 48 college-level credit hours completed at a U.S. institution
• If an applicant is from a country whose primary language is English
• Graduation from a U.S. high school having spent the final 2 years in the U.S. 
• Meeting the SAT or ACT requirements for admission of domestic freshmen
• Duolingo English Test (accepted during COVID-19 closures)- 95

The School of Law and the School of Medicine are closed to ISEP participants. Admission to the radio-television and cinema and photography departments is highly competitive although the departments welcome ISEP participants if space is available and students meet the basic requirements. Some classes may have considerable additional costs because of the materials or equipment required, especially art and design, cinema and photography or aviation flight. The College of Agriculture and Engineering charges a extra fees for some additional courses, which is not included in the ISEP benefits.

TEXTBOOK FEES: SIU-Carbondale has an optional textbook fee that students can opt out of during the first two weeks of the semester. This fee covers textbook costs per credit hour. If you wish to opt out, you can purchase textbooks individually at retail cost.

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
