Founded in 1947 as an organization dedicated to supporting and developing the fine arts, today Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado has grown into one of the most important and respected academic institutions in Brazil, with over 13,000 students and 750 professors. FAAP is home to undergraduate schools of fine art, business, communications, law, economics, engineering and computer science. In addition to a high school and a graduate school, the larger Foundation also encompasses the Museum of Brazilian Art and the FAAP Theatre, making FAAP one of the most prominent institutions promoting arts and culture in the region of São Paulo.   

Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado distinguishes itself in its commitment to student development and is considered an institution that prepares future leaders of the country in the spheres of business, public service, culture and art. Its main mission is to foment both academic and artistic development, growing students into well-rounded individuals. In the classroom, professional specialization meets the requirements of modern production, with instruction based on new technologies, concepts of productivity and total quality.     As the fourth largest city in the world and the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere, São Paulo is the cultural and financial capital of Brazil, and one of the top cities for study abroad in Latin America (QS Best Student Cities Ranking). With world-renowned nightlife, excellent cuisine, a lively fashion scene, 223 cinemas, 92 theatres, 11 cultural centers, 70 museums and dozens of historic buildings, there is always something new to explore in this metropolis of 21 million people. São Paulo is also a melting pot of different cultures, with large Arab, Italian, Japanese and Jewish communities. 

    FAAP is located in the traditional neighborhood of Higienópolis, a largely residential area in a central part of the city. Higienópolis is best known for its prominent cultural institutions, including the Museum of Brazilian Art and the FAAP Theatre.
