Only two hours from Paris, the city of Le Havre is located in the northwest Normandy region of France at the mouth of the Seine estuary. The town was largely rebuilt after World War II and today features extensive public beaches and a marina. In 2005 Le Havre was named a UNESCO World Heritage site for its post-war architecture.

Since its origins, Le Havre has been a city open to the world and today Le Havre is home to the country's second-largest commercial port. Its central location on the English Channel features frequent ferry service to Great Britain and Ireland easy access to travel all over Europe. Le Havre enjoys a mild climate and is a seaside city with a superb pebble and sandy beaches only 500 m from the city center. The beach promenade is a friendly place where locals like to get together to walk, run, rollerblade, or even sit on a café terrace facing the sea.

The larger Normandy region is known for its Camembert, Calvados and seafood, and is home to many medieval towns and many of the most iconic cultural landmarks in France, including Mont Saint-Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry, Rouen Cathedral, the D-Day landing beaches and the picturesque town of Honfleur.

The campus of Le Havre Normandie University enjoys an exceptional location in the heart of the city. Close to the hub of train, train and bus stations and few kilometers from the beach, the university and its students benefits from a privileged geographic location.

With three theaters (the City Hall Theater, the Baths Showers Theater, the Volcano) concert halls (Les Docks Océane, l'Agora) the range of live shows is very rich and the programming is daring.. Painting lovers can discover the collection of impressionist works at the Malraux Museum and in the art galleries dotted throughout the city center. Le Havre is also a sports city with professional men's football and basketball teams and a women's handball team. Water sports activities are particularly numerous (rowing, sailing, windsurfing, swimming and diving). For the general public, the city provides facilities such as a skate track and a volleyball court and organizes rollerblading tours in town once a month. The university organizes a schedule of cultural events excursions and student activities throughout the year, so there is always something to do!

In addition to the support provided by the staff in the International Relations Service (SRI), the university has also established a personalized student welcome system to facilitate the integration of international exchange students and help them organize their daily lives in France. The SRI recruits student “welcome tutors” at the start of each school year. These are French or foreign students who have themselves studied abroad. From offering practical advice to help you prepare for your time abroad, to welcoming you at the train station when you arrive, helping you complete administrative procedures and introducing you to the different university services (catering, sports service, cultural service, university library, etc.), your tutor will accompany you during the first weeks of your stay in Le Havre and help you adjust to university life in France.
