The University of Murcia is a public research university located in the southeastern part of Spain.  Even though its origin dates back to the thirteenth century, the university was officially established in 1915. Every year around 1,000 international students from nearly 50 countries study abroad at the Universidad de Murcia.

The University of Murcia has 24 schools and seven research institutes, offering modern facilities and experimental science support services, two extensive libraries, as well as many specialized institutes dealing with different aspects of the scientific and humanistic world.

The university also has a great number of sports facilities including sports halls, a football field, aerobic and weight rooms, tennis and squash courts, a climbing wall and an indoor pool. Students also have access to computer labs in many buildings and a wide variety of cultural and extracurricular activities.

The University of Murcia has four campuses:

- La Merced: in the center of Murcia (specializations: humanities, arts and law).

- Espinardo: five kilometers north of the city (specializations: education, industrial relations, social work, veterinary medicine, chemistry, biology, psychology, fine arts, computer science, economics, business, philosophy and mathematics).

- Health Science: 11 kilometers south of the city (specializations: medicine, dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy).

- San Javier: 45 kilometers east of Murcia, with public transportation from the city to the campuses available (specializations: sports science).

This variety of academic programs and facilities, the possibility of studying Spanish as a second language, the university's strategic location, Murcia's bustling atmosphere, as well as mild weather year-round make the University of Murcia an attractive destination for students, professors and researchers worldwide!

A true wedge among the Mediterranean regions, Murcia is the product of a crossing of civilizations throughout its history: Muslim, Castilian and Valencian-Aragones have all left their mark on the city. Situated in southeastern Spain, Murcia has a Mediterranean climate with very little rainfall and enjoys more hours of sunlight per year than most Spanish cities. Its fertile soil, bathed by the Segura River, has provided the nickname for which Murcia is known: the orchard of Europe. Two seas are located in the region, and the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor are tranquil and warm all year.

International students have many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities as there are more than 30 student organizations available. The International Relations Organization brings together international and local students during the international welcome week at the beginning of each semester for social activities and travel. Our "buddy program" for international students matches each new international student with a local student during the first weeks of the program.

The ISEP Direct Spanish language and culture program includes full orientation, welcome week activities and a weekend trip to cities in southern Spain.
