San Diego State University was founded in 1897 for the training of elementary school teachers. It is now one of the largest universities in the western United States, with over 33,000 students. SDSU is a teaching university with strong research programs strengthening the instruction SDSU students receive in the classroom and laboratory. SDSU’s faculty conducts more than $90 million in funded research each year. These projects provide unusual opportunities for students to work alongside faculty using the latest equipment.
