Frostburg State University is a student-centered teaching and learning institution featuring experiential opportunities. The University offers students a distinctive and distinguished baccalaureate education along with a select set of applied master’s and doctoral programs. Frostburg serves regional and statewide economic and workforce development, promotes cultural enrichment, civic responsibility, and sustainability, and prepares future leaders to meet the challenges of a complex and changing global society.
A state-sponsored university, Frostburg enrolls about 5,000 students, including 900 graduate students; 84 percent are Maryland state residents. Close to 30 percent of students live on campus.

Frostburg State University is located in the mountains of western Maryland. Frostburg is 12 miles west of Cumberland, a city of 25,000, and 150 miles west of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. The main campus covers 260 acres within the town limits of Frostburg. The local region is rich in both history and outdoor activities. Students can visit nearby recreational areas — Rocky Gap, New Germany, and Deep Creek Lake State Parks — which offer camping, boating, swimming, hiking, and skiing. It is a destination for students seeking a challenging and enriching educational experience. International students are invited to join student academic, social, recreational, or service organizations. In addition, the Center for International Education provides a lounge and kitchen for international students and provides no or low-cost recreational trips on selected weekends. In addition to specialized labs in all departments, science facilities include a planetarium, greenhouse, live animal rooms, centrifuge, herbarium, arboretum, biotechnology center, and electron microscope. The Performing Arts Center contains three theaters, rehearsal spaces, music practice rooms, and electronic labs and facilities for the deaf and hard of hearing. Campus and community audiences enjoy a wide variety of concerts and performances.
