Located on 250 acres, the main campus includes a new library and two new auditoriums, which are the site for numerous art performances and guest speakers. Appalachian has an excellent outdoor programs office, which allows students to take advantage of the many outdoor recreation opportunities in the area. Boone, North Carolina, is located just a mile off the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway of northwestern North Carolina, close to both Tennessee and Virginia. Boone is the county seat of Watauga and has become known as the "Heart of the High Country." Recently listed in two editions of The 100 Best Small Towns in America, Boone is nestled in a breathtaking valley amidst some of the oldest, most scenic mountains in the world. The region is known as a recreation area with skiing, fishing, hiking, biking trails, and campgrounds close to Boone.
