Roanoke College’s award-winning 80-acre campus is in the center of the historic city of Salem, Va. The college is within a few miles of downtown Roanoke, a metropolitan area of 250,000 people, and the arts and culture hub of southwest Virginia. The campus is surrounded by mountains, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures are nearby. Virginia’s many historic sites and Washington, D.C., are within easy driving distance.
Roanoke College has an active social life, with student activities including bands, films, comedy clubs, game nights, and other events on campus. The free college shuttle takes students to nearby downtown Roanoke, where there are many restaurants and a lively arts and music scene. Over 100 student organizations, including athletic, community service, arts and culture, outdoor adventure and social groups are open to all students. The International Club sponsors cultural events, social events, and day and weekend trips during the academic terms to destinations such as Washington, D.C., and cultural and community service trips to cities such as New York, Chicago, New Orleans, or Miami for fall and spring breaks.
