Middle Tennessee State University, founded in 1911 as one of three state normal schools for teacher training, is a Tennessee Board of Regents Institution. MTSU enrolls over 22,000 students. MTSU has 137 permanent buildings and is exactly one mile from the geographic center of Tennessee.

  MTSU is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, about 25 minutes from downtown Nashville. Nashville offers historical site-seeing, cultural attractions, nightlife, dining and shopping, and is internationally renowned as the heart of country music in the United States. Murfreesboro is within driving distance of most southern regional states and important destinations such Memphis, Washington D.C. and New Orleans.

  MTSU has approximately 225 registered student organizations including honor societies, sports clubs/teams, political groups, social groups and more. Each year in September a student organization fair is held on-campus for all new students to attend and learn more about their options. International exchange students in the past have enjoyed participating in the salsa dance club, the equestrian team and the men’s rugby team. The international student services office also organizes events for all international students throughout the year including a monthly ethnic restaurant trip, football tailgate parties, community theater excursions and camping weekends. International students can also choose to sign up for sports clubs through the campus recreation center and participate in affordable “adventure trips.”
