Established in 1855, Butler University has long had a reputation for innovation: it was the third university in the United States to admit women. The university enrollment is 3,800. Because of the university’s emphasis on a close student-faculty relationship, classes are small. The campus features playing fields, a botanical garden, and a nature preserve. A 2,200-seat performing arts facility, Clowes Memorial Hall, is also a major attraction. The Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium has the largest telescope in the state of Indiana. The Holcomb Research Institute is in the forefront of U.S. environmental research institutes.

Butler's mission is to provide the highest quality of liberal and professional education and to integrate the liberal arts with professional education, by creating and fostering a stimulating intellectual community built upon interactive dialogue and inquiry among students, faculty and staff.

Butler University is located on the north side of Indianapolis, the capital of the state of Indiana. Besides being the site of the Indianapolis 500 car race, the city boasts a symphony orchestra, sports arena and numerous theaters and restaurants. Indianapolis is also home to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, The Eiteljorg Museum of Native American Art and the largest children's museum in the U.S.

There are so many ways you can get involved on campus. Butler has over 150 student organizations, a strong Greek system, around 30 intramural and club sports to choose from, volunteer opportunities on and off-campus, to name a few. You will not have a problem filling your time; however, you might have a problem finding enough time to do all the activities you want to do!
