The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is an independent, private, equal opportunity, and coeducational liberal arts institution of higher education. The educational, cultural, and administrative structure, methods, and standards of AUK are based on the American model of higher learning. The language of instruction is English.
Founded in 2003, AUK opened its doors to students in 2004 and is home to approximately 2500 students and 300 members of staff and faculty each fall. More than 60% of the student population is Kuwaiti, with the remainder representing over 40 nationalities.
AUK offers 14 degree programs in Business Administration, Engineering, Social Sciences, and the Humanities as well as an extensive general education program. The University is accredited by the Private Universities Council (PUC) – Ministry of Higher Education in the State of Kuwait and has programmatic accreditations from the American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE), the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP). Additionally, for the purpose of advancing research and providing a broader forum for intellectual discussion and academic debate the university hosts two research centers; the Center for Gulf Studies and the Center for Research in Informatics, Sciences and Technology.
Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, is the international partner institution to the American University of Kuwait. Dartmouth and AUK have worked closely together since 2003 when the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding that facilitated a series of advisory, consultative, and cooperative projects including faculty and student exchanges and an internship program.
