Established in 1947 as Wilmington College, University of North Carolina Wilmington was granted university status in 1969, and is now one of top 10 public universities in the South. The student body is approximately 14,000 with an international student population of 200. The student-faculty ratio is 16:1. One quarter of the students lives on campus.

    Located in the southeastern section of North Carolina, the historic port city of Wilmington is 120 miles from Raleigh. Wilmington is known for its diverse cultural heritage. Ocean breezes and the nearness of the Gulf Stream give Wilmington a delightful year-round climate.

    The Center for Marine Science, one of the finest in the world, pursues advanced study in oceanography, coastal and wetland studies, and aquaculture. The Herbert Bluethenthal Memorial Wildflower Preserve is a 10-acre site dedicated to preserving southern North Carolina flora. An active campus activities program provides a wide range of entertainment opportunities, as well as over 100 campus organizations.
