Founded in 1839, the institution which would become the University of Chester is one of the oldest providers of higher education in the country, with our academic roots stretching back to the early 19th century. We have an excellent approach to higher education which has evolved over years of teaching, pre-dating all but a handful of other English higher education providers.
Chester is on the border of Wales, surrounded by Welsh hills and mountains within a 2,000-year-old city with a beautiful river as well as a canal running through the city. Chester offers a deep history dating back to the Roman era which is still visible through the ancient ruins all over the City including a Roman Amphitheatre and the Roman Gardens. It is the heart of cultural and architectural history, our 13th- century Cathedral has served worshipers since 1283 and still holds a popular service every Sunday. A modernised Christian mega-church has just opened too. Chester also provides other places of worship such as Mosques, Synagogues and Gurdwaras to cater to many religions.
We are 2 hours from London and only 30 minutes away from major cities like Liverpool and Manchester (45 minutes from Manchester Airport and the Trafford Shopping Centre), where you will find museums, galleries and theatres. Chester train station is only a 15-minute walk from campus, allowing you access to these amazing cities for a decent price.
