Founded in 1839, the institution which would become the University of Chester is one of the oldest providers of higher education in the country. We have an excellent approach to higher education which has evolved over years of teaching, pre-dating all but a handful of other English higher education providers.

Chester is on the broder of Wales, surrounded by Welsh hills and mountains within a 2,000-year-old city with a beautiful river as well as a canal running through the city. Chester offers a deep history dating back to the Roman era which is still visible through the ancient ruins all over the City including a Roman Ampitheatre and the Roman Gardens. In the heart of cultural and architectural history, our 13th-century Cathedral has served worshipers since 1283 and still holds a popular service every Sunday. Chester provides a number of places of worship such as modernised Christian mega-church, Mosques, Synagogues and Gurdwaras to cater to many religions.

We are 2 hours from London via train and only 30 minutes away from major cities like Liverpool and Manchester (45 minutes from Manchester Airport and the Trafford Shopping Centre), where you will find museums, galleries and theatres. Chester train station is only a 15-minute walk from campus, allowing you access to these amazing cities for a decent price.

We have a number of learning sites in Chester, including our main campus Exton Park (Parkgate Road), where you'll find our Student's Union, CH1 Bar and many sports facilities including our 3G-Pitch Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), Swimming Pool, Fitness Suite and more, you will have the opportunity to join any of our 125 sports and societies or create your own. Art, Design, Media, Music and Performance are taught at Creative Campus, Kingsway; Education and law at Wheeler; and our Business School is on the beautiful historical Queen's Park campus; which comprises of the refurbished and historical buildings that were formerly the Headquarters of Western Command during the Second World War. Visited by leaders such as Prime Minister Winston Churchill, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and General Charles de Gaulle, you too can walk this hallowed turf. Wherever you study at Chester you will be only a short walking distance to the centre of Chester.

For over 185 years, we have remained proud of our traditions in ensuring each individual student is catered form, all whilst being fully competent in keeping pace with the demands of a constantly changing world. Now, as a forward-looking University, we continue to grow in esteem and popularity. As a student at the University of Chester, we will work with you to become a unique and highly employable graduate, whilst providing you with one of the best experiences of your life. We work continuously to ensure that we offer a life-transforming experience to every student in a creative, supportive, and encouraging study environment. We are one of the only universities in the UK that has an Intercultural Communication course, designed specifically for exchange students.

In choosing Chester, you will be selecting a University that provides a life-enriching experience through academic excellence, outstanding student support and concern for wellbeing, as well as a welcoming student community. The University of Chester delivers a multitude of unique opportunities in academia, sport and recreation; your experience here will make you a desirable and employable graduate and prepare you for when you venture into the wider world.
