Randolph-Macon College’s inviting campus is nestled in the town of Ashland, just 20 minutes north of Richmond, the capital of Virginia. With an Amtrak train station on campus, students have easy access to major cities along the East Coast: Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and more. Students can take classes in a wide variety of subject areas, from all the classic liberal arts fields to criminology, cybersecurity, and engineering. With an enrollment of about 1,500 students and small class sizes, people will soon recognize your face and know your name here. There are many ways to get involved, whether you are interested in athletics or e-sports, theater or music, community service, or a host of other student organizations. R-MC is a place where you can make strong connections with fellow students, staff, and faculty – in and out of the classroom – making the most of your study abroad experience in the USA.

Ashland is a small, close-knit community only 24 kilometers north of Richmond and 145 kilometers south of Washington, D.C. Each semester, faculty and student groups organize bus trips to Washington, D.C., providing opportunities to explore the nation’s capital at no expense. In the fall, enjoy global music at the annual Richmond Folk Festival and then take the Amtrak train to New York City for Thanksgiving! Celebrate spring by viewing the cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. and experience spring break in Virginia Beach or the beautiful Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Mountains. Relax after the semester ends by exploring more of Virginia, or fly directly to Orlando, Florida, from the Richmond airport!

Over 90 percent of students live on campus, which means the college also offers a lively social environment. International students are welcomed by International Assistants, specially selected returning RMC students who will help you learn your way around and acclimate. Exchange students are encouraged to be part of everything available to Randolph-Macon students, whether it’s athletic teams or e-sports, chamber choir, show choir or music performance, theater and dance, competing with the debate team, taking part in community service opportunities, or any of the other student-run organizations. Many international students enjoy being a member of the International Interest Group, which promotes international friendship through activities on and off campus. International students are welcome to participate in extra-curricular activities that RMC students do!
