PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Experience Graz, Austria’s second largest city, where youthful college-town energy meets scenic outdoor spaces perfect for unwinding.

• Take courses in English or German alongside both international and local students, with options in fields like business, criminal justice, and liberal arts and sciences.

• Join a campus community of 30,000 students and lean on the support provided by facilitated buddy programs, welcome events, and coordinated excursions for international students.

LIVE and DINE

Live in a fully furnished double room with a same-sex roommate in an off-campus apartment that is shared with up to six students. Apartments include co-ed common areas, shared bathrooms, on-site laundry, biweekly cleaning services, and kitchens with a fridge, oven, stove, and microwave. You'll receive a monthly meal stipend to use at affordable campus canteens. While in Austria, be sure to try traditional favorites like apple strudel, Wiener Schnitzel (breaded veal), and knödel (dumplings).

EXPERIENCE

Ease into life at Universität Graz with support from the campus’ Erasmus Student Network, a student organization dedicated to helping you adjust and feel welcome. A local buddy will meet you at the airport or train station and help you settle in upon arrival. The network also coordinates optional excursions, like skiing in Mölltal, exploring the Styrian Wine Road, or hiking in Gesäuse National Park. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore on your own as well with a student travel pass that provides access to Graz’s bus and train system. The city also offers student discounts to local museums, concerts, operas, movies, and more.

What We Love About Graz

We love that Graz offers endless ways to connect—whether it’s with fellow students, local culture, or the great outdoors. From scenic hikes to the dynamic city atmosphere, there’s something here for everyone.

Course Description

Students who want to take German-taught classes must have completed the equivalent of two years of college German (German level B1/B2) prior to the start of their exchange semester.

You can research courses in the UNIGRAZonline course guide:

Uni Graz can also accept students with less or no German background provided they find enough English-taught classes to meet their home university's requirements. If you are not only interested in German-taught classes but also want to add an English-taught class to your workload you can research English-taught classes at Uni Graz via our Search engine for English-taught classes.

Typically full year students concentrate on improving their German skills during the first semester and take subject-specific classes during the second semester. Participation in the intensive pre-semester German course is mandatory for students intending to take German-taught classes.
