Located in Ghana’s capital city, Accra, The University of Ghana is in the heart of the fastest growing city in Africa. As you fly over, Ghana appears to be a bundle of green, bordered by golden beaches but once you step off the plane you will immediately feel its cultural richness and variety. The country’s darker history as the former core of West Africa’s slave trade offers unique moments of reflection and hopeful signs of progress.

The ISEP Global Engagement Program at the University of Ghana enables students to extend their ISEP experience beyond the classroom through ISEP-facilitated community engagement opportunities. If you are interested in learning about complex issues facing developing nations while enjoying a rich cultural, historical and social experience, this program is for you.

The University of Ghana has a variety of courses but students studying resource development, agriculture, social sciences or public health will gain a perspective that will set you apart from your peers.

The GEP program offers benefits above and beyond a typical ISEP program including community service, independent studies and research projects, an internship, an on-site resident director, excursions and a Twi language course.

Community engagement opportunities facilitated by ISEP:

Looking to deepen your experience? Check out ISEP’s community partnerships and volunteer opportunities: ISEP Facilitated Community Engagement Opportunities.

Other volunteer opportunities:

If none of the ISEP-facilitated community engagement opportunities above fit what you are looking for, please contact the ISEP Resident Director directly (isep@ug.edu.gh) for assistance in arranging another opportunity.

Independent Study opportunities in Ghana:

Looking to learn more outside of the classroom? Participate in a structured independent study project supervised by a professor from the University of Ghana.

The independent study project should be discussed at length at the home university if you are seeking academic credit for the project. Before enrolling talk with your home university about how you can be awarded partial or full credit as it is not awarded by the University of Ghana. There is a separate fee associated with a project to be paid to the supervising professor at the University of Ghana.
