Human Rights and International Law (Virtual Summer) (in English) - ISEP Direct

Masaryk University is located in the judicial capital of the Czech Republic, making it a perfect location to study law. This online course takes students through different aspects of international law and how human rights intersect with it. Students will have virtual site visits to the UN in Vienna and Radio Free Europe to discuss how Human Rights intersects with their fields.
Why this program: This online course seeks to not only expand students’ academic knowledge, but also seeks to pull on the strengths of having students from all over the world enrol. The course will encourage students to learn not just from esteemed professors and current members of the court, but also from their peers through in class discussions and group projects.
Please note that there is an enrollment capacity of 10 students for this virtual program. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the June 1 deadline.
Course Description
Credits: 8 ECTS
Academics: Online classes will take place at 09:00 CET Monday-Friday for two hours. Classes are structured as discussions and students are expected to participate in the live lectures. This course stands out from other online courses with its emphasis on seminar style discussion.
General: Virtual site visits will be arranged with the UN in Vienna and Radio Free Europe, among others. These will take place after the class time.
Virtual ‘coffee hours’ will be offered throughout the week to provide a space for students to ask questions that may come up, and to get to have a chance to better know who is in the course. They are not required, but are encouraged.
This time is subject to change based on enrolment, in which case a class time will be agreed upon by all involved.
Learning outcomes: This program is designed to teach students about international law from the European and Czech perspective. As well as enhance students intercultural communication skills through working in group projects with students from other nations.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- Understand what the human rights are and how they are structured
- Key actors and instruments in the field of protection of human rights
- Limits and conflicts of some of the basic freedoms (e.g. of expression)
- What is the access to the legal help in the Czech Republic and in CEE region
