LIFE ABROAD
Suva offers historic colonial architecture, a vibrant food market scene, and breath-taking coral reefs to explore in a region of 300 islands! Enjoy living a short distance away from shopping centers, delicious cafes, and mesmerizing hikes along the coast.
LIVE
Stay in an air-conditioned single room in an on-campus residence hall located alongside other international students! Located just five minutes walking distance from the city center, ideally located for anybody looking to explore the wonders of the city after class.
DINE
Prepare meals with a shared kitchenette in the residence hall or hit up the dining hall on campus to grab some delicious Chinese or Indian Food! Head downtown to taste fresh seafood, coconut juice, or local fruits like pawpaw and sea grapes. Don’t forget to try a Kava drink (yaqona), a crushed root strained with water named the national drink of Fiji!
EXPERIENCE
Settle in during orientation week with an extensive campus and city tour. On campus, enjoy movie nights, poetry slams, and international mixers organized by Campus Life at USP. Get involved in special events like the International Office Community Outreach, a day of learning and mentoring, or bond over sports and games during International Office Fun Day. Join an included excursion to a local village, then unwind with an evening on the beach alongside new friends from all over the world. After class, head downtown to admire the diverse architecture that fills the streets—all minutes away from tropical beaches.
EXPLORE
Head down to Albert Park to stroll around and catch a rugby match, or hike to stunning waterfalls. On Saturdays, you’ll want to be downtown to see the streets fill with vendors during market day, when you can sample local, fresh produce.

Take advantage of several recreational facilities close to your on-campus housing. Just a short walk away, you’ll find a recreational center with a 30-meter swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, an outdoor volleyball court, and gym for you to enjoy.

Course Description
At USP, students can blend academics and hands on practical learning. Courses including Marine Studies, Tourism, Geography, and Biology. All offer field trips and excursions to provide a rich experience from the regional perspective including insights into the development issues and challenges faced by Pacific Island Countries. The chart below highlights some of the more popular classes students have taken in the past. Credits Earned
Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to take 3-4 classes which ISEP recommends is the equivalent of 12-15 U.S. Credit Hours. Each course meets about 3-4 hours per week in lectures and required discussions (tutorials) + about 6-8 hours of self-directed readings and assignments or field trips. Each class is about 7.5 USP credits.

Other Academic Conditions
To find the courses you need, search through USP's Programs and Courses to see the courses and specializations in each program or use the course finder to search their course database.
Programs and Courses: Use the Filter Search function to type in your major or program area of focus. This will take you to a list of classes that fall within that area of focus.
Course Finder: Be sure to select “face-to-face” or “blended” courses on the “Lucala” campus.
Words of wisdom:
ISEP students should register only for courses that:
• Are 100, 200, or 300 level
• Have only 2 letters in the course code
• Are offered "F at L" (face to face at Laucala campus)
• Are offered in the correct (Southern Hemisphere) semester they will be studying abroad
ISEP students may NOT register for the “P” and “F” Preliminary and Foundation courses, and they should avoid CETH and other Pacific TAFE program courses.
Undergraduate students may be able to take one 400-level class on a case-by-case basis if it is required by their university.
Students must meet the prerequisites for each class based on their previous coursework before enrolling in a class.
USP uses the Bologna Model to align credits to hours: One (1) credit point in the Bologna system is the equivalent of 25-30 hours notional learning time which includes lectures, required discussions and self-directed study. Study abroad students follow a 12-week academic calendar.
University the South Pacific follows the Southern Hemisphere calendar. When searching for courses, be sure to search for courses using the correct semester parameters: Southern Hemisphere SMI is February to June; Southern Hemisphere SMII is July to November.
If you are considering studying for a full-year in Fiji, you might consider starting your program at the beginning of USP’s academic year in February.
