Study in Finland (in English) - ISEP Exchange
Programme description - flexible course completion methods
Tampere University offers a wide variety of courses taught in English with very flexible completion methods. Courses for exchange students are offered on bachelor’s and master’s level. From our course list you can find a lot of self-study courses that can be completed at any time or traditional lectures that are organised during our four different teaching periods. Make sure you understand the completion options and the teaching periods when the course is organised:
- Teaching periods I-II are in the autumn semester (August - December)
- Teaching periods III-IV are in the spring semester (January - May)
Please see the Exchange studies at Tampere University website for our internal application instructions (which has to be completed beside your ISEP application).
Tampere University has three campuses
Tampere University has three campuses available to ISEP Students which include city centre, Kauppi, and Hervanta. Please note that each campus offers courses within different faculties. ISEP students should choose the majority of their courses from a single campus and study field, but are allowed to take their remaining courses from other two campuses as well. Students are asked to do this to avoid schedule conflicts. At Tampere University, in some study fields, there might be more courses available as independent studies (self-studying) without any traditional lectures in English. Learning is assessed usually by essays and one exam. The dates for exams vary with the field of study. Taking independent studies and electronic exams is very common.
Student housing is always off-campus
ISEP students will be accommodated usually in a TOAS student housing either close to the city centre campus or close to Hervanta campus. TOAS is a local student residence with private rooms and some shared facilities. More information on which residence they will be housed in will be given to students after they have been admitted to Tampere University. ISEP students could be housed in any TOAS location, but most likely you will be staying close to the campus you have been admitted to.
Meals - Finnish buffet lunches in campus restraurants for less than 3 euros
All ISEP students will receive a meal stipend based on the cost of living for students in Tampere, which they can use to purchase groceries and cook meals in shared facilities. The stipend will be disbursed into your personal bank account from your home country. The bank account has to be on student's name. Please note that this can take a few weeks, so students should be prepared with funding for meals and start-up costs during that time until the stipend can be disbursed. Students will be expected to budget for their meals accordingly, and can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips, as well as check out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad. A student lunch at Tampere University will cost you only around three euros at campus restaurants!
