Summer Brazilian Language, History & Culture (in Portuguese)

The five-week Summer Brazilian Language, History and Culture Program is a great fit for students who want to improve their Portuguese language skills while experiencing all that São Paulo and Brazil have to offer. ISEP students immerse themselves in Brazilian culture and daily life by taking university classes and living in the community. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. The course includes 100 hours of class time and grants 6 U.S. credits.
As the fourth largest city in the world and the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere, São Paulo is the cultural and financial capital of Brazil, and one of the top cities for study abroad in Latin America (QS Best Student Cities Ranking). With world-renowned nightlife, excellent cuisine, a lively fashion scene, 223 cinemas, 92 theatres, 11 cultural centers, 70 museums and dozens of historic buildings there is always something new to explore in this metropolis of 21 million people. São Paulo is also a melting pot of different cultures, with large Italian, Arab and Japanese communities.
Located in Higienópolis, one of the most traditional districts of São Paulo, Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado was originally founded in 1947 as a foundation to support fine arts. The Museum of Brazilian Art, the FAAP Theatre and the Artist in Residence program make FAAP one of the most prominent institutions promoting arts and culture in the region of São Paulo. Today, FAAP is considered one of the most important and respected academic and cultural institutions in Brazil, and FAAP’s Executive MBA is considered one of the best in the country. FAAP prepares future business, public, cultural and artistic leaders, with a mission to promote both teaching and the arts and provide its students with a well-rounded education.
Course Description
This summer program combines intensive Portuguese language instruction with Brazlian history and culture in the vibrant city of São Paulo. Students will also paticipate in cultural activities and excursions around the city and region.
Students will enroll in one of the following courses depending on their language level and background:
Portuguese I for English Speakers
Portuguese II for English Speakers
Portuguese I for Spanish Speakers
Portuguese II for Spanish Speakers
The course includes 100 hours of class time and grants 6 U.S. credits.
Students may also choose to enroll in an additional course taught in English for an extra fee. The course taught in English is usually in the field of business or international studies (past example: Doing Business in Brazil).

No prior Portuguese language experience is required. Students will be contacted by FAAP to take a placement test to determine in which course they will enroll.
