LIFE ABROAD

Jyväskylä, located in the Blue Lake district of Finland, is a lively city in a beautiful setting of lakes, ridges, parks, and forests. Experience summer festivals and a variety of outdoor activities while taking classes through the Jyväskylä Summer School in Human Sciences. The program offers 12 interdisciplinary courses for advanced undergraduate or graduate students. This program runs from late May through Mid-June. 

Excursions & Cultural Experiences

There is plenty of free-time in the afternoons and on the weekends to explore Jyväskylä and connect with other international students and local Finnish students! Past activities hosted by the program included:

  • Game Nights
  • In-town gatherings
  • Cooking events teaching students local Finnish recipes
  • And more!

Students can also join sports teams or take classes at the gym on campus!

Housing

Housing is included in this program in the Kortepohja Student Village on Campus. Students have access to the campus gym all stummer for a minimal extra cost (about 20 euros).

Meals

Students receive a meal stipend which they can use at the restaurants on and off campus, and at grocery stores. Cooking facilities are provided. 

Explore Jyväskylä

Finland is known for their saunas and Jyväskylä is no exception! Don't miss this unique opportunity unlike anywhere eles. The Jyväskylä region is also home to two of Finland's seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites; the beautiful Patajavesi Old Church and the Oravivuori Triangulation Tower on Struve Geodetic Arc with gorgeous views of Lake Paijanne. In addition, there are 4 national parks in the area localks hike through frequently. If you aren't already caught up in all the local activities in Jyväskylä, Helsinki is just a few hours south by train for an added adventure!

Participants are welcome to take the full summer school program (one course per week) or one or more parts of it and receive 2-15 ECTS depending on course selection at no additional cost.
