Study in Italy (in English, Italian) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo is located in the historic walled city of Urbino, an important political center and home of many prominent figures of the Italian Renaissance. Located just 30 miles west of the Adriatic beach towns, Urbino has retained its medieval character, with charming streets lined with shops and overhanging apartments. The city is surrounded by picturesque vineyards, forests and mountain streams. The city’s centerpiece is the historic 15th-century palace built by the Duke of Montefeltro. Urbino, the Renaissance city, has become the ideal city for study, and is a lively and stimulating campus-town perfectly suited for student life.
Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo traces its origins back to the Collegio dei Dottori, which was officially recognized by Pope Julius II in 1507. Today, the university has ten academic faculties which offer its students and scholars a wide range of courses and research opportunities.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Italian culture and daily by taking university classes with local students and living in a residence hall on campus. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. The university also has a "buddy system" to help connect ISEP students with local students and adjust to life in Urbino!
HOUSING AND MEALS
All ISEP students in Urbino are accommodated in the university halls of residence and receive a meal card that provides for 19 meals per week in the university cafeterias.
Course Description
Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo offers the majority of their courses taught entirely in Italian. A small selection of courses is taught in English or partially taught in English. Additionally, some courses where the lecture is in Italian provide students the option to complete course assignments, readings and exams in English.
A pre-session Italian language course and Italian language course during the semester are included in ISEP benefits. It is highly recommended that all students enroll in both language courses.
Tips for finding courses:
1. Use the Italian Course Search. Choose the Academic Year, Type (LAUREE) and Academic Program.
2. Click on the course name for more information, including the syllabus.
4. Courses in the Primero Semestre (first semester) run September – January and courses in the Secondo Semestre (second semester) run February – June. Courses labeled Annualita Singola run the full year from September – June.
5. Students may also search for CLIL courses which are taught entirely or partially in English or other foreign languages.
6. To search for additional courses in English, please use this link.
IMPORTANT: ISEP students can select courses from different degree programs, but all courses selected must come from the same "group." For example, students may take classes in sociology and business (group one) but not biology (group two) and history (group three). All students may still take the Italian language course regardless of their field of study.
Group one: Law, communications, sociology, economics, business (finance, accounting, management, administration and marketing), political science and government studies.
Group two: Computer science, physics, biology, chemistry, earth and geological sciences, nutrition, pharmacology and sport science.
Group three: Education, archaeology, philosophy, classics, foreign language and literature (Italian, Greek, French, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, German), history, art history and psychology.
Academics
Other Academic Conditions
In the Italian academic system, 1 CFU = 0.5 U.S. credits. A 6 credit course in Italy is equivalent to a 3 credit course in the U.S. Students should register for a minimum of 24 CFUs and a maximum of 30 CFUs. Your home institution ultimately determines credit conversion.
All students must submit a Language Evaluation for Italian with their ISEP application. Students mainly taking classes in English or partially taught in English are required to have an A2 level of Italian. Students taking classes in Italian are required to have a B1 level. Students who have an A2 level but wish to take courses taught in Italian may be considered provided they enroll in the pre-session language course.
Conservation and restoration of cultural heritage courses are closed to ISEP students.
