National Expedition and Internship: Communication and Marketing (in English)
Massey University’s national expedition and internship program will take you across the North and South Islands of New Zealand and place you in an internship where you will work on real world problems relevant to your degree. You’ll travel through some of the planet’s most spectacular scenery, immerse yourself in Kiwi culture and see parts of New Zealand open only to locals, all while earning half a semester’s worth of credit toward your degree. This foreign internship will set you apart from the masses and benefit you throughout your career.
Program Length: 6 weeks
Credit options: 6-8 U.S. credits
Course Description
The six-week program is worth 30 Massey credits, equivalent to six to eight U.S. credits or 15 ECTS. Check the program page for a description of the course and links to an academic guide.
Recommended reading begins on May 21. The program then starts with a two-week expedition of the North and South Islands led by Massey staff, exploring how successfully the brands and images of the tourism industry capture the attention of people new to the country and culture. You will discover New Zealand’s adventure capital, alpine towns and glaciers, historic settlements and the country’s geothermal playground. Stops along the trek from Auckland to Queenstown will involve case studies looking at the identity of the organizations and brands you encounter, assessing the company’s image and identifying how effectively they appear to communicate what they offer.
Interns will be placed at a range of organizations across Wellington, a capital city renowned for its arts and culture. The placements will have a community service or social justice focus which will contrast with the tourism-oriented businesses analyzed during the national expedition.
