LIFE ABROAD

Cultural Experiences

In Brussels, you'll be able to join seminars and workshops that feature some of the key decision-makers and leaders in the European Union. Plus, you'll have access to the libraries, computer labs, cafeterias, and sports facilities at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Brussels and Belgium offer a lot of opportunities to explore, from great museums, wonderful cuisine, and pictuersque towns. Ready to explore a bit more? Brussels' central location offers an ideal starting point for international travel on the weekends. By train, Brussels is only 1.5 hours from Paris, 3 hours from London, 2 hours from Cologne, and 2 hours from Amsterdam. Public transportation within Brussels as well as to and from Brussels is plentiful, well-designed and economical. For longer trips, students can find attractive fares on high-speed trains or discount airlines.

Housing & Meals

Immerse yourself in the everyday life of a Belgian family and the Belgian culture. BSOG works with host families who for years have welcomed international students into their homes and are committed to enriching the study abroad experience of these students. Eleven meals per week (breakfast seven days per week and dinner on weeknights) are included. Students will also have access to grocery stores, cooking facilities, and a multitude of dining options with affordable meal choices.

Explore Brussels

Known as the 'Capital of Europe,' students will be immersed in the international and multicultural nature of Brussels. The city hosts both NATO and the European Commission, and is home to some of the world's most famous foods, drinks and cultural icons, such as 'Pommes Frites' (French fries), waffles, chocolate, thousands of different types of beers, TinTin, Hercule Poirot, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Course Description

Over the 7 weeks of the program students may register for a maximum of 2 courses, earning a total of 12 ECTS (6 U.S. credits). Any combination is possible! You can also choose a for-credit internship as one of your two selected courses, gaining valuable work experience with one of BSOG's prestigious internship partners.

INTERNSHIP

Internship Program Syllabus

Students participating in an internship are required to keep a daily log and to write a 3,000-word paper at the end of the term. The internship is evaluated with a letter grade and grants 6 ECTS (equivalent to 3 U.S. academic credits).

Applying for an internship is a separate process at BSOG. To fast-track this process, students interested in applying for an internship should upload to the "additional documents" section of their ISEP application a copy of their resume or CV and a general cover letter that outlines internship objectives, preferred job responsibilities and qualifications. Find more information about the internship program, application procedures and deadlines on the BSoG website.
