Missouri Southern State University is an excellent choice for students interested in forming close bonds with local and international students, as well as the Joplin community. Small classes taught by full time faculty also offer students the opportunity to experience individualized learning and to get to know their professors.

The University offers a strong and active international club that allows students to take advantage of the natural beauty of Southern Missouri and the Ozarks by going on camping and canoeing trips or visits to local favorite attractions such as Silver Dollar City. The Joplin-area also offers a very low cost of living, so students will be able to go out to restaurants and participate in various extra activities at a very affordable price.

Furthermore, students can participate in classes in the intensive English program free of charge, which makes this program particularly unique compared to others where ESL courses are an additional fee. Student feedback reflects that MSSU is a great location to strengthen language skills and to get to know international students from around the world.

Additional benefits to choosing the MSSU program with ISEP is having the opportunity to select a "worry-free" option due to its excellent chance of placement. Furthermore, students have can utilize the benefits of the friendship family network which allows students the opportunity to practice their English skills and/or to get to know local community members who invite students into their homes for dinner, events and special occasions (such as Thanksgiving).

This is a great spot for Business and Finance students! Located in the Free Enterprise Center of the Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration, the Edward Jones Investment Center offers students the ability to engage in a controlled investment experience as they manage $400,000 in real money. Students experience the dynamics of the financial markets and risk management field firsthand in a real-life situation. Only a small number of major universities have this type of lab. Professors with doctoral degrees from the nation’s most prestigious universities teach your classes – no graduate assistants.

HOUSING AND MEALS

Students will stay in a residence hall in a traditional shared room. An option to upgrade to a suite, apartment, or residence in the Quad is available for an additional fee. Laundry facilities and cooking facilities are included in all residence halls

Meal plans consist of 23 meals per week. Each Meal Plan includes Dining Dollars which can be used at Mayes Dining Hall, The Lion's Den, & University Java.

*Calendar Year students are not eligible for ISEP housing or meal benefits over the summer break
