PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio's Main Campus is located in Villanueva de la Cañada, just outside of Spain’s capital city of Madrid. This small university town has beautiful green parks and historic plazas to relax in, while just minutes away by bus students can access all that the bustling city of Madrid has to offer. Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio was the first accredited private university in Spain, gaining its charter from Spanish Parliament with the goal of educating students for the competitive world market. The campus is modern and green, and the university takes pride in its close ties to the business community and use of innovative technology.

ISEP students immerse themselves in Spanish culture by taking university classes with local students and living in a shared apartment in the community or in a residence hall on campus. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. Excursions to popular tourist destinations in Spain are also planned each semester.

HOUSING AND MEALS

Students will receive a combined monthly housing and meal stipend. The UAX Office of International Relations provides information about available accommodation options, including shared student apartments and an on-campus residence hall. While the international office assists students in finding appropriate housing, students are ultimately responsible for arranging their own housing, signing their housing contract and paying monthly rent with their stipend.

Shared student apartments in Villanueva de la Cañada are the most popular housing option for students studying at UAX, and the International Relations Office can provide international students with the contact information of approved landlords. While some students choose to live in the city of Madrid, it is important to note that it is approximately one hour commute by bus from the Moncloa station in Madrid to the UAX campus, depending on traffic.

The on-campus residence hall with a full cafeteria meal plan (21 meals per week) is also available to ISEP students at UAX. However, due to the additional services provided this is a more expensive option that will not be fully covered by the ISEP stipend. Additionally, students choosing to study at UAX during the Spring semester will most likely not be able to live in the on-campus residence hall because it will not have available space. Shared student apartments are the most conveinent and recommended option for students.

In order to receive their ISEP stipend students are required to open a local bank account after their arrival in Spain. Due to the administrative procedures involved, the first stipend payment takes up to four weeks to disburse. Students should have sufficient funds to cover expenses during this initial period (housing and meals, refundable housing deposit, etc.) and budget accordingly. The first stipend payment will include benefits beginning from students' arrival date. All ISEP students are expected to budget their housing and meal stipend to pay rent and purchase groceries and meals. Students can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips, as well as checking out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad

Courses in the “Primer cuatrimestre” run September – January and courses in the “Segundo Cuatrimestre” run February – June.
