Nihongo for Exchange Students (NEST) Program (in English) - ISEP Exchange
Toyo University's NEST Program offers 10 credits of intensive Japanese language and culture courses per semester alongside subjects from Toyo's English-taught curriculum. These courses help exchange students increase their proficiency to a level that allows them to pursue their academic interests and enjoy campus life to the fullest.
Toyo strongly encourages students to take advantage of their time in Japan to learn Japanese language and culture. Students who have not passed level 1 (N1) or level 2 (N2) of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test are encouraged to enroll in the NEST Program.
Through active participation in NEST, students can expect to learn to:
- Meet the needs of daily life by communicating exclusively in Japanese
- Gather, convey and discuss information about recent events and social issues in Japanese
- Gather, convey and discuss information related to their academic disciplines in Japanese, using academic vocabulary specific to their fields
Students are placed in one of four levels of instruction based on the results of a Japanese placement test.
Students can work on improving their language skills while making friends with Japanese students through the language exchange partner program.
Students can also take courses taught in English in addition to the NEST program.
