A short distance from the Atlantic coast, Nantes is known as the Venice of the West due to its location on the river delta of the Loire, the Erdre, and the Sèvre. There is a very strong international presence in Nantes because of the many international students attracted by the University.
Students with an intermediate to advance French language proficiency can take a semester or full-year of regular university courses taught in French alongside local French students. The university benefits from the presence of advanced research facilities. It has specialized libraries of humanities and law, sciences and technology.
HOUSING AND MEALS
ISEP students live in a university residence hall and receive a meal stipend.
SCHOLARSHIP
This program qualifies for the ISEP French and German Language Annette Kade Fund Scholarship. The scholarship awards $500 - $1,500 USD to students who are from a U.S. institution and studying French or German language in Austria, France, Germany, Reunion Island, or Switzerland. Learn more here!
Course Description
You can research courses using the Nantes website. Languages, literature and humanities are considered strong areas of study, as are science and technology. Nantes Universite features extensive departments in taught in French and a variety of courses taught in English. Please view the English course brochure here.
Students should use the course catalog to search for course, and can filter results by language of instruction and academic level.
Courses with titles in French are taught in French, and courses with titles in English are taught in English.
ISEP students must choose at least 70% of their courses from one faculty, except in the faculty of Sciences et Techniques, where students must take 100% of courses in this faculty. Students are asked to do this to avoid schedule conflicts.

Academics
Other Academic Conditions
Students must have an A2 level in French even if applying to take courses in English.
For non-native English speakers, a B2 English language level is required for courses in English.
Some university courses are offered on a full-year basis only.

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
