Course Description

Students will choose to take courses (modules) from one stream. The subject areas within a stream can vary and allow students to take courses both within and outside of that specific area of study. Students should choose one stream that most closely matches their major. Available streams include: Humanities & Social Sciences (HMSAO), Science & Health (SHSAO), Engineering and Computing (ECSAO), DCU Institute of Education (IESAO), and DCU Business School. 

Please note: DCU has three campuses in Northern Dublin. Students taking courses in Business, Engineering & Computing, Sciences/Health Sciences will study on the Glasnevin campus. Humanities courses are taught on the All Hallows campus. Education and social science courses are taught on the St. Patrick's campus.

CREDITS EARNED

Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to take up to 30 ECTS which ISEP recommends is the equivalent of up to 18 U.S. Credit Hours.

Special Application Instructions

Students must complete an internal application for DCU, to be submitted after their ISEP placement. Students will indicate all module choices on the DCU internal application along with other student support needs. 

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.

VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.

Other Academic Conditions

Classes at DCU are taught in “modules”.  In a 5-credit module, students can expect to spend 2-3 hours per week in lecture per module.  

Students will be able to choose modules available to incoming study abroad students on the DCU Placement page. Students should also be sure to review the module choice checklist and guidelines. Students can enroll only in classes (modules) within their chosen stream and will take an average of 4-6 modules per semester, for a maximum of 30 ECTS credits in total (up to 18 US credits).  

Duolingo also accepted for English proficiency. Students must have a minimum score of 120 and at least 110 in each subscore. A verification link must be provided when submitting evidence.
