Study in Finland (in English) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Situate in the city of Turku, sometimes referred to as the 'Paris of Finland', enjoy the walkable campus and access to the nearby Aura River or even the Baltic sea.
HOUSING
ISEP students will apply for accommodation in local student residences called "Student Villages" in a single room in a shared apartment or in a studio. Most resiences have saunas!
MEALS
All ISEP students will receive a meal stipend based on the cost of living for students in Turku which they can use to purchase groceries and cook meals in shared facilities, and even eat on campus with discounted meals.
Course Description
While the official language of the university Finnish and Swedish is also widely used, the University of Turku offers a wide variety of courses taught in English namely in the fields of Education, Technology and Science, Economics, and Law.
The university’s special research units include the Archipelago Research Institute and the Sub-arctic Research Institute, both situated in appropriate and scenic locations.
As an ISEP student, you can build your own program by choosing your courses from a variety of fields. Use the notes for course searching to help you find which courses are available.
Credits Earned
Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to earn 24-30 ECTS per semester. Students typically enroll in about 6-8 classes per semester. A semester is broken into two periods lasting for a total of 16 weeks. To determine how these credits convert at your home institution, please contact your home university coordinator.

ACADEMICS

• Qualified 3rd and 4th year undergraduates may be eligible to enroll in Masters level coursework.
**In addition to the courses offered at the University of Turku, it is also possible to take courses at Åbo Akademi University (up to 50% of your course load).
ACADEMIC CALENDAR
• Please note that the academic calendar at the University of Turku is divided into two semesters (Fall and Spring) with two ‘Periods’ per semester.
• The Fall schedule contains courses listed in Period I and Period II and runs from Late August through Late December
o Arrival & Orientation: Last week of August
o Courses Dates: First week of September through the 3rd week of December (ending before the winter holidays)
• The Spring schedule contains courses listed in Period III and Period IV and runs from Early January through Late May
o Arrival & Orientation: First week of January
o Courses Dates: Second week of January through the 3rd week of May
• Exams take place during the final days of each of the 4 teaching periods
PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
