Flexible Course Completion Methods

Tampere University offers a wide selection of courses in English with flexible ways to complete your studies. Exchange students can choose from both bachelor’s‑ and master’s‑level courses, and many study fields offer self‑study options that can be completed at any time. Traditional lecture‑based courses are also available and take place across four teaching periods. When planning your studies, please remember to check each course’s completion methods and the teaching period in which it is offered.

  • Teaching periods I-II take place in the autumn semester (August - December)
  • Teaching periods III-IV are held during the spring semester (January - May)

You can find Tampere University’s internal application instructions - required in addition to your ISEP application - on the Exchange studies at Tampere University website.

Three Campuses With Distinct Academic Profiles

Tampere University has three campuses available for ISEP students: City centre, Kauppi, and Hervanta. Each campus hosts different faculties and specialisations.Because the study fields listed in the ISEP portal do not always match the academic fields offered at Tampere University exactly, ISEP students are encouraged to select most of their courses from the study field and campus that best correspond to their major at their home university. Several study fields offer more independent, self‑study‑focused courses that replace traditional lectures with written assignments and a final exam. Electronic exams and individually paced coursework are quite common across the university.

Student Housing Is Always Off‑Campus

ISEP students are usually accommodated through TOAS, the Tampere Student Housing Foundation. Housing is located either near the City centre xampus or Hervanta campus, and typically consists of private rooms with shared kitchens or other shared facilities. After receiving your admission letter from Tampere University, you will be informed of your specific housing location. Although ISEP students may be placed in any TOAS property, most are housed close to the campus their studies are based on.

Meals – Enjoy Finnish Buffet Lunches for 3 Euros

All ISEP students receive a meal stipend based on student living costs in Tampere. This stipend is transferred directly into the student’s personal bank account in their home country, and can be used to purchase groceries and prepare meals in shared kitchen facilities. Because the bank transfer may take a few weeks to process, students should ensure they have enough funds to cover meals and initial living expenses upon arrival. Students are expected to budget carefully during their stay and can seek guidance from their ISEP Student Services Coordinator or consult ISEP’s resources: Budgeting for Study Abroad. On campus, students can enjoy a full buffet‑style lunch at university restaurants for only around three euros, making daily meals both convenient and affordable.
