Students who choose the Language Assistant Program will have the opportunity to work as a language assistant in a primary or secondary school located in Milan and the greater city area.  Students will work to support teachers in the following activities at their assigned school:

  • Plan activities to motivate students to learn more about the target language
  • Share aspects of your home culture
  • Organize group and class activities
  • Boost conversation practice
  • Help with text reading and comprehension
  • Participate in activities aimed at teaching a specific subject in a foreign language

Additionally, students will enroll in a two-week intensive Italian Language course (six ECTS), a workshop with UCSC staff (three ECTS), in-class activities to help students prepare activities for their school placement (180 hours, six ECTS) and an optional final reflective report for students to explain activities they have participated in and what they have learned from the experience (three ECTS).

Students are also eligible to enroll in two UCSC courses from the International Curriculum or Academic Curriculum while participating in this program.  Students taking part in this program are required to attend Orientation One.
