Edinburgh Napier University is one of the largest universities in Scotland with almost 4,000 international students from over 100 countries studying in business, creative industries, science and many more innovative areas. The setting of Edinburgh is itself an incredible asset for enhancing programs in unique and dynamic ways. The excellent support services for international students make the journey to Edinburgh and beyond an unforgettable one.

Students should be aware that they will need to fill out forms from the Accommodation Office to secure housing. While you will need to follow Edinburgh Napier's registration process, please note that ISEP Direct students will pay for housing through their ISEP account, NOT to Edinburgh Napier.

ISEP Exchange students will receive a meal stipend in a single payment based on the cost of living for students in Edinburgh, which they can use to purchase groceries and cook meals in shared facilities. This payment is disbursed all at once at the beginning of the semester, after students open a UK bank account. Full year students will receive two payments. Students should be prepared with funding for at least one week until the payment is disbursed. ISEP Direct students do not receive meal benefits and will be expected to use their own funds for meals.

All ISEP students will be expected to budget for their meals accordingly, whether they receive a stipend or are using their own funds, and can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips, as well as check out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad.

Course Description

For information on modules (classes) available at Edinburgh Napier University, please visit our visiting students module portal.

The new module choice portal  has been designed to allow for easy navigation of the available modules and by clicking onto a module you will find a brief description of the module’s content. The page defaults to showing all modules available, however by clicking on a module choice group, the view will amended to show only the available modules within that group or subject area (e.g. accounting or biology). You can find popular modules, Scottish Culture & Society and Wine Studies, in the general group.

Please read the guidelines listed while finding your classes*

All Edinburgh Napier classes are 20 credits = approximately five US credit hours.

Special Application Instructions

Choosing your courses as a visiting student

You will need to choose your courses in order to complete your course request list on your ISEP Application.  You will also need to apply for these courses within your Napier application listed above.  See the link here and be sure to follow the guidelines for selecting coursework: https://visitingstudentmodules.napier.ac.uk/app/modules

Course selection Guidelines:

You will be assigned to a school based on the modules you have selected and therefore must try to select at least two modules from the same Module Choice Group. Ideally, you will select three modules from the same Module Choice Group, or two from one group, and one from the 'General' group. For example, if you are interested in Social Sciences you can select under Module Choice Groups to show the 'Social Sciences' module choice group only. You will then see all the modules available in this subject group. You may select three modules from this group, or select only two and a third one from 'general' as follows:

Three courses from the Social Sciences Module Choice Group:

Contemporary British History

Introduction to Criminology

Politics in British Society

Or you can select only two from the group, and a third one from 'General'.

Two modules from the Social Sciences Module Choice Group, and one from 'General':

Contemporary British History (from the Social Science group)

Introduction to Criminology from the Social Science group)

Scottish Culture & Society (from the 'General' list)

Selecting a minimum of two courses from one Module Choice Group ensures quicker responses to applications.

Other Academic Conditions

Edinburgh Napier has a flexible modular structure allowing visiting students to devise programs tailored to their own needs. Modules in most undergraduate disciplines can be combined with one another. Participants are required to carry a normal workload of three modules per semester, but should also choose two to three backup classes for their application in case some modules are not available.

For students taking courses within the field of music, specifically instrumental courses, it will be the student's responsibility to pay any extra fees associated with these courses

*Edinburgh Napier has strengths in the following fields of study:  Business/Marketing, Crimnology, and Hospitality and Tourism.

*There is limited availability for student placements in the following fields: Journalism, Design, Music, Photography and Film. For consideration, students who wish to take classes in one of these fields while at Edinburgh Napier must:

1) Be majors in the subject at their home institution

2) Have junior or senior level status

3) Provide a portfolio, audition or interview where appropriate to demonstrate prerequisite knowledge and skills

4) Be willing to commit to studying all their modules at Napier per semester within that field (for example, a request to combine one design class, one business class and one Scottish studies class would likely be denied because the subjects are spread across multiple departments).

**Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor Edinburgh-Napier can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.

PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.

VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
