SIP is an inter-disciplinary program that offers course options such as the study of Indian languages, social sciences, humanities and performing arts. Students also have many opportunities to join clubs, attend educational seminars and participate in a number of excursions and field trips.

All courses and official and administrative issues will be handled in the SIP Office, which is located on the South Campus. The average course is worth four credits, and the typical course load is four courses per semester.

There are four types of courses:

  • Regular university courses (along with Indian Students) in different schools, departments and centers
  • Independent and directed study where a faculty member supervises readings, field study and research focused on a specific topic. To partake in an independent study, the student must submit a written request to SIP staff. This option is only recommended for highly motivated students.
  • Courses involving practice and performance, e.g. Indian classical dance, theater, music, painting, sculpture, etc
  • Non-credit courses such as yoga, tabla, kathak, etc
