UMBC offers over forty majors and minors in the humanities, social sciences, physical and natural sciences, visual and performing arts, and engineering. As a dynamic research institution with an interdisciplinary focus, UMBC encourages its students to think beyond their own academic disciplines, with programs in global and Asian studies, entrepreneurship, and information systems. UMBC's faculty are nationally ranked for their excellence in undergraduate teaching.
UMBC is particularly strong in its opportunities for undergraduate research. with students conducting reserach across all academic disciplines. Our annual undergradaute research conference, URCAD, is a highlight of the spring semester. For students interested in volunteer service opportunities, the Shriver Center offers programs that link our students to the needs of the Baltimore-Washington community.
Students typically enroll in 12 to 15 credits per semester, which consists of four to five classes. Each semester runs approximately 15 weeks.
HOUSING
MEALS
ISEP students will receive the Ultimate Meal Plan. There are 24 meal periods in a week (Sun=Brunch, Dinner, and Late Night Mon-Thur=Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Late Night Friday= Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Saturday=Brunch, Dinner).
Students with an Ultimate meal plan have unlimited access to the True Grit's dining hall, with multiple meals per meal period, provided they have not used their meal at a retail location. If a student chooses to use their meal at a Retail location (e.g, Starbucks, Hissho) they are only entitled to one meal per meal period. Also included in the Ultimate meal plan are $80 Flex Dollars that a student can use anytime at any retail location.
*Calendar Year students are not eligible for ISEP housing and meal benefits over the summer break.
Course Description

The Undergraduate Course Catalog, updated every year, gives descriptions of all classes taught at UMBC, as well as requirements for each degree program.
You can find a listing of the classes which will be taught for each semester on our on-line Class Schedule. The Class Schedule is published approximately four months prior to the start of each semester.
Academics
Other Academic Conditions
Some UMBC classes, particularly in the STEM fields, visual and performing arts, and in physical education, have mandatory lab or participation fees. These fees are the responsibility of the student.
Students wishing to enroll in courses in the visual and performing arts will need to submit a portfolio or audition materials for placemenet at appropriate levels.
PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
