Study in Italy (in English, Italian) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Università degli Studi di Pavia is located in the peaceful university town of Pavia, situated on the banks of the Ticino River. The city's comfortable size and medieval character are a pleasant contrast to the bustle of Milan, located just 30 minutes away by train. Founded in Roman times, the city today features extensive Romanesque and Renaissance architecture, with a maze of narrow streets, ancient churches and elegant buildings. The countless events, festivals, exhibitions, concerts, and university sports events combine to create an ideal place to live and study.
Università degli Studi di Pavia is one of the oldest universities in Europe, with an edict issued by King Lotharius in 825 noting an institution of higher education in Pavia. The university is composed of 15 distinct colleges and residences where studies live and study. The university values not only the quality of its education and research programs, but also its student services, recreation and leisure activities.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Italian culture by taking university classes with local students and living in a residence hall on campus. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. Pavia has a series of sports centers, including those run by CUS (Centre for University Sports), as well as many cultural attractions.
HOUSING AND MEALS
ISEP students are assigned to live in a single room in one of the university's EDiSU colleges. Pavia's collegiate system, unique in Italy, consists of 20 residential Colleges hosting approximately 2,000 students. Living in a traditional College offers the opportunity to belong to a community where academic achievement, traditional events, parties, and sporting rivalries all play key roles. Mentorship, orientation, support courses and cultural activities are all included in the residential experience. Each college encourages its students to be active participants in the management of the College, and student life is organized into intercollegiate sport teams and cultural/social clubs, each one having its own president and list of events.
ISEP students are provided with 19 meals per week in the university's canteens (mensa). Students will receive a meal card that is pre-loaded with a meal plan offering breakfast 7 days per week, lunch and dinner Monday to Friday, and lunch each Saturday and Sunday.
