Teach English in Madrid or Oviedo (in English) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The English Teaching Assistant International Internship program at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio offers native-level English speakers the opportunity to gain experience in teaching English as a Second Language by interning as a Teaching Assistant at a primary or secondary school in Madrid or in Asturias. UAX has developed a network of schools and works collaboratively to place and support program applicants.
While program support is provided by the ISEP coordinator at UAX, students will live in host communities in and around the cities of Madrid and Oviedo and will therefore be expected to be fairly independent.
HOUSING AND MEALS
In addition to the combined ISEP housing and meals stipend, students in this program can expect earn an additional 950€ per month as part of a scholarship between the Colegio and UAX. Students participating in this program can therefore expect a total monthly stipend of 1800€ per month.
While housing assistance is provided by the UAX International Relations Office and their host school, participants are ultimately responsible for arranging their own housing, signing their housing contract and paying monthly rent with their stipend. Students also use their stipend to purchase groceries, meals in restaurants and at their teaching site.
In order to receive their stipend participants are required to open a local bank account after their arrival in Spain. Due to the administrative procedures involved, the first stipend payment takes up to four weeks to disburse. Students should have sufficient funds to cover expenses during this initial period (housing and meals, refundable housing deposit, etc.) and budget accordingly. The first stipend payment will include benefits beginning from students' start date. All ISEP students are expected to budget their housing and meal stipend, and can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips as well as checking out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad.
