Summer in Chile - Spanish Language & Latin American Studies (in Spanish)
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• Earn up to 6 credits and spend 4 weeks in Valparaíso, Chile, a UNESCO World Heritage site and port city on the Pacific Ocean
• Study intensive Spanish at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level
• Narrow cobblestone streets, colorful architecture and unique system of trams, funiculars, and escaleras (stairways) provide endless opportunities for exploration in Valparaiso, and you are just a quick trip from beautiful beaches or the Andes Mountain
• Stay with a host family and learn about Chilean family life while working on your Spanish language skills

Excursions & Cultural Engagement
Embark on a city tour of Valparaíso, meet with local Chilean students, and practice your Spanish with your homestay family. Valparaíso is also an ideal hub for independent travel. Bus travel is inexpensive and safe - explore Chile from the Atacama Desert in the north to Patagonia in the South!
Housing & Meals
Students further the immersion experience by living with a local homestay family during their time in Chile. Host families provide students with 21 meals per week for the duration of the program.
Explore Valparaíso
Valparaíso, a city with a population of about one million, is the thriving cultural capital of Chile andone of the country’s most important seaports. The artsy and bohemian nature of the city has long attracted artists, including poet Pablo Neruda, and boasts some of the best street art in Latin America. The region combines beautiful weather, wonderful beaches and the splendid Cordillera de Los Andeswht the city know for its multicultural flavor. Seventy miles from Santiago, Valparaíso fascinates visitors with its history, geography and architecture.

No Language Evaluation is required, but it is strongly recommended that students have taken at least one Spanish language class prior to beginning program
Students enrolling in 1xxx (Nivel Principante) or 2xxx (Nivel Intermedio) courses may only combine these with other courses of the same level (1xxx or 2xxx, respectively) or the 5xxx level courses taught in English. Courses at the 3xxx, 4xxx or 5xxx taught in Spanish are not open to students at the 1xxx or 2xxx level.
Passport: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
