Other Academic Conditions

Students cannot leave the University of Malta before the final date of their semester exams. Fall semester exams take place from mid-January to early February and spring semester exams take place in the month of June. It is not possible to take exams early or remotely. Leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.

Academic programs in Malta are called courses, areas of focus are called subject areas and classes are called study-units.  Study-units are coded according to the subject area, academic level and study-unit topic. Taking for instance: ART1001: Introduction to History of Art (level 1), as an example:

the letter code - ART - refers to the subject area

the initial number - 1 - refers to the academic level of the study unit

the last three digits - 001 - refer to the study-unit topic.

Review the Course List for Visiting students to learn more and access the lists of study-units available under their respective programs and semesters.

Course List for Visiting Students

Malta’s academic calendar is organized on a full year basis, so students studying abroad for only one semester should be aware that course availability may be limited, requiring extra flexibility in course selection. Students are also encouraged to have additional courses in mind in case of scheduling conflicts.

Students will officially register for courses after arrival in Malta. Students will need to get in contact with the academic department administrator at the University of Malta in advance of departure to confirm that the courses desired are available, and obtain permission to register. Students may contact the host coordinator at Malta for assistance with this after ISEP confirmation.

COURSE NOTES & ADDITIONAL FEES

The faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine & Surgery are closed to ISEP students.

Students must have extensive course experience in the fields of Chemistry and Biology if they wish to take courses in said fields. This must be reflected on their transcript.

Academic Year Students wishing to take more than 24 US credits should contact their ISEP Student Services Officer about additional pricing.

If an ISEP student enrolls in one or more courses from the Faculty of Science, the $500 fee will be added to the cost of tuition in their ISEP account. This additional fee takes into account semester students enrolled in 12 - 15 US credits and academic year students enrolled in 24 US credits.
