Buddhism and Thai Society Summer Program (in English) - ISEP Direct
Immerse yourself in the richness of Thai culture by spending six weeks on a campus that was once the viceroy’s palace grounds. During this six credit Thai studies program at Thammasat University, learn about Buddhism and Thai society while spending weekends on organized field trips exploring temples, monasteries, museums, archaeological remains, palaces and ethnic minority communities throughout the country. There are also several opportunities to attend Thai theatre, dance and music performances.

Course Description
The program focuses on the complex relationships among Buddhism and Thai history, politics, economics, education, literature, law, arts and theater. Students are taught by distinguished scholars and professors at Thammasat University and visit sites of particular historical importance.
Students attend classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with time for study and cultural excursions on weekends and holidays.
PD223 Society and Culture of Thailand (three credits): Study Thai society and culture through diverse analytical and critical anthropological methods using case studies from various sources of research by Thai and international academics.
PD353 Buddhism in Thailand (three credits): Investigate the role that Buddhist institutions in Thailand practice as well as the function and roles of other Thai religious institutions.
