PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Explore the stunning UCC campus, located on 42 acres of wooded grounds on the banks of the River Lee.

• Attending UCC brings the advantage of accessing an extensive catalog of classes each semester- make the most of your university experience by making steady progress toward your degree requirements while also living deep in the heart of Ireland!

• Receive support throughout your stay in Cork, including an orientation to Irish life, organized excursions to nearby cities, and connection with local students through the UCC Peer Support Leader program

• Access over 100 active societies and 50 different sports clubs, including areas of interest such as academics, volunteering, gaming/role-playing, politics, religion, watersports, and martial arts, just to name a few.

LIFE ABROAD

A traditional college town, Cork is known for its nightlife, restaurants, and music scene. Spend your free time strolling along the River Lee, popping into markets, dropping into a pub for traditional Irish music, exploring historic castles and cathedrals, or kayaking through the city center. Nearby, you can tour Blarney Castle (and the famous Blarney Stone), the historic port of Kinsale, and miles of coastline.

LIVE

ISEP students live in up-to-date, furnished apartments arranged through the UCC accommodation office. Each student has a single room furnished with a bed and desk. Typically, apartments are shared with 3-5 other students and include a furnished living area and a kitchen with standard appliances.

DINE

Dine in the food capital of Ireland on local delicacies such as Boxty (Irish Potato Pancakes), Irish stew, and Shepherd’s Pie. Packed with a litany of restaurants, the city has no shortage of brunch and dinner options or cafes to frequent. There are also plenty of on-campus options to choose from including cafes, restaurants, and convenient stores. The average monthly cost of groceries for students in Cork is 200-300 USD.

EXPERIENCE

Cork has a thriving cultural scene that led it to be named the European Capital of Culture in 2005. Several festivals are held annually in the city including a Midsummer Festival, film festivals, music festivals, and more. You can also join in on other favorite Irish pastimes by joining an Irish football or rugby team or learning how to navigate open waters by enrolling in a local sailing class.

EXPLORE

Enjoy easy transportation around the city with two bus routes that pass through campus, as well as a simple bike rental process with discounts for students. The campus is located just one mile from the city center, so there are plenty of opportunities to explore Ireland’s second largest city. Just 1.5 hours away by train, County Kerry offers some of Ireland’s best hiking and exploring at Killarney National Park and the Dingle Peninsula. Cork's international airport provides daily links to mainland Europe and other major destinations, including Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Frankfurt.

THRIVE

Plenty of support services are available to you while on campus, including academic assistance, counseling services, budgeting help, and more.

What We Love About UCC

We love that when students arrive they get to experience two weeks of exciting activities such as walking tours of the city, cinema nights, table quizzes, and Irish music and dance experiences.

Other Academic Conditions

Classes at UCC are taught in “modules”.  In a 5-credit module, students can expect to spend 2 hours per week in lecture + attend weekly module discussions.

Students will be able to choose modules available to incoming students in the Book of Modules for Visiting Students. Students can enroll in classes (modules) in multiple disciplines and will take an average of 4-6 modules per semester, for a maximum of 30 ECTS credits in total (roughly 15 US credits). Most modules are 5 ECTS each, with occasional 10 ECTS modules available as well. Please note that only those modules in the Book of Modules for Visiting Students will be available.

Students should also note that modules at the Junior level may be more advanced than the Junior level at your home institution.

Please note that law, medicine, and dentistry modules are not available to visiting students. All available modules are listed in the Book of Modules. Some modules may require pre-requisites and are subject to UCC departmental review and approval.
