Laurentian University is located in Sudbury, the largest city in northern Ontario. The region’s culture is influenced by the large Franco-Ontarian community as well as local indigenous communities. The university offers an urban learning environment surrounded by pristine nature, and the campus is bordered by freshwater lakes and nature trails. Students are active in winter sports such as skiing and curling during the region’s long, snowy winters.
Laurentian University has grown from a small liberal arts college to a multi-faculty university. The university prides itself on its student-focused approach to academics and campus life. Laurentian is a bilingual and tricultural institution, serving Canadian, French and Indigenous populations. Twenty percent of the student population is Francophone, and many subjects offer instruction in both English and French. Additionally, the university offers a Native Studies program that examines the history and culture Canada’s indigenous groups, including the Ojibwe people who live in the Sudbury region.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Canadian culture by taking university classes with local students and living in a residence hall on campus. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups.

Other Academic Conditions
Students must have a B1 leve of French to take courses taught in French (labeled FREN). In addition to the ISEP Language Evaluation, on-site language proficiency testing is administered for students of French and translation/interpretation.
Courses in the fields of architecture, medicine, nursing, midwifery, social work, forensic science and radiation therapy are closed to ISEP students. Third- and fourth-year courses in commerce and administration are closed to ISEP students. Enrollment in certain courses may require approval on an individual basis.
Students may only enroll in undergraduate-level courses.
